Taco braid

I recommend making the pizza dough yourself. It doesn’t take long and while it rises you can prepare the everything for the recipe. Here is a recipe for a quick and easy whole wheat pizza dough. I used 1 cup regular flour and 1 cup whole wheat flour to make the dough easier to work with. It can be a little tough to roll out if it’s only whole wheat. If you’re short on time you could buy some already made pizza dough also.

1 recipe whole wheat pizza dough
1 pound (450 grams) lean ground beef
1 big red onion, finely chopped
2 tbsp taco spice mix
1 small jar salsa sauce (around 230 gr)
1 lime
2-3 tomatoes, finely diced
shredded cheese (around 100 gr or to your liking)

Toppings:
4 green onions, finely chopped
sour cream
guacamole

Pre-heat the oven to 180°C (355°F). Put parchment paper on a baking sheet.

Prepare the pizza dough and let it rise. In the meantime you can chop the vegetables and prepare everything for the recipe.

Roll the dough like in the picture and cut strips along the sides like in the picture.

Fry the onion for a few minutes until it softens. Add the ground beef and brown it. Add the taco spice, salsa sauce and lime juice. Stir everything together and season with freshly ground salt and pepper.

Spread the beef mixture evenly in the middle of the pizza dough. Spread the diced tomatoes on top and a layer of shredded cheese on top of that. Braid the dough going from end to end. Brush with the olive oil and spread a line of shredded cheese on top.

Bake for 20-25 mínútur or until the dough is crispy and the cheese has melted. Top with green onions and serve with sour cream, guacamole and a good salad.
